You know how when you’re eating a really delicious dip–be it that spinach artichoke stuff, the guacamole, or the hot three-bean dip you love at Superbowl parties–have you ever noticed that the cracker isn’t the point? The cracker is just the delivery vehicle for that delicious dip. The cracker is not the goal. It never was. No one, but no one, is excited about those crackers by themselves, unless you’re, like, six! It’s the dip! That which the cracker delivers! The dip is what it’s all about!

Leadership is like that cracker. It’s not the goal. Too often, people just want to be a leader ‘because.’ Some don’t know why, others think being a leader is the goal, the destination, the point…Not so

Leadership is a vehicle to get to the good stuff. So what’s your good stuff? What can you do with your leadership? Who can you be with your leadership?  What can be enjoyed, savored, achieved, accomplished, tasted… because your leadership created the possibility? Leadership is about the possibilities.  If you have this vehicle, what kind of life, family, joy, career, possibilities would you deliver to yourself?  If you saw your leadership as the vehicle that gets to the good stuff, where would you lead yourself and those around you? Where could you go? What could you/they accomplish that couldn’t otherwise be achieved without your leadership? Leadership takes you places. Leadership is the vehicle, not the point.

Leadership is the cracker, not the dip.
